What shoulder surgeries are undertaken by Hunjan Hospital?
Total/Partial Shoulder Replacement
Total or partial shoulder replacement is typically performed for patients suffering from arthritis, particularly when both sides of the shoulder joint are affected.
- Total Shoulder Replacement: In this procedure, the damaged part of the upper arm bone (humerus) is replaced with a metal head, and the damaged socket (glenoid) is replaced with a plastic shell that fits a metal head.
- Partial Shoulder Replacement: In this case, only one part of the affected shoulder is replaced.
Shoulder Resurfacing
During shoulder resurfacing, the damaged part of the joint is smoothed out, and a metal cap is placed over the bony end, allowing a socket to fit securely. This procedure can also be followed by revision shoulder replacement or bilateral treatment, and some cases may benefit from minimally invasive surgery.

Shoulder Impingement
Shoulder impingement is common among athletes, particularly bowlers, cricketers, swimmers, and tennis players. It results from repetitive arm movements, especially when increasing training intensity. The condition leads to discomfort and pain, especially when overexertion occurs.
How to prepare for surgery?
Before surgery, a complete physical examination is required to assess your overall health. Your surgeon will advise you on any medications you need to stop taking, as some may increase the risk of bleeding.
On the day of surgery, wear loose-fitting clothes, preferably a button-up shirt. Typically, you will be discharged 2 to 3 days after surgery. Once you’ve regained strength and full motion, you can drive independently. For the first 6 weeks, you may need assistance with daily tasks.

How does the surgical procedure go?
Shoulder replacement surgery typically lasts about 2 hours. General anesthesia will be administered, so you will not be aware of the procedure. During the surgery, the surgeon will replace the damaged joint ball (humeral head) with a metal piece and place a plastic socket (glenoid) to complete the joint. If necessary, a partial shoulder replacement may be performed instead.
What are the necessary precautions you need to take?
- Avoid suddenly increasing your training intensity.
- Ensure proper rest and rehabilitation after surgery.
- Make sure your training techniques are correct and appropriate.
- Adequate rest and rehabilitation are critical for optimal recovery and to benefit from the surgical procedure.
