Age 100 Plus No Bar to Hip Replacement.Total Hip Replace was done on Centenarian at Hunjan Hospital Ludhiana
A team at the Hunjan Hospital including Dr BS Hunjan and Dr Jaiveer Hunjan successfully performed the procedure on a 105 years old patient. Dr Hunjan said that nearly one out of two centenarians are still living independently, but they are also at the highest risk of fractures due to osteoporosis.
However, there have been very few studies of the effectiveness of joint replacement surgeries in people over 90 years old. With hip-replacement numbers on the rise and an aging population. An estimated 70000 hip/knee replacements are performed every year in India, primarily in people between 60 and 80 years old. Dr Jaiveer Hunjan reported that doctors and their centenarian patients are often reluctant to risk a hip or knee surgery solely because of age. However, the study results indicate that the decision to perform the surgery should not rest on the question of age.The researchers also found that hip-replacement surgery was less risky for centenarians than many other surgeries.
World Mental Health Day 2018 .
On World Mental Health Day, The team of Psychologists, volunteers of Psychowaves foundation and Hunjan Hospital, have been to many public places in Ludhiana trying to spread Awareness among people about Mental Health and its Stigmas. The volunteers and psychologists were holding banners and going to the public (staff of mall, security, and laborers) trying to explain to them about the importance of Mental Health. World Mental Day (10 October) is a day for global mental health education,
Health Awareness and advocacy against social stigma.[1] It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.[2] This day, each October, thousands of supporters come to celebrate this annual awareness program to bring attention to mental illness and its major effects on peoples’ life worldwide.[3] In some countries this day is part of an awareness week. This Year Theme of the day is “Young people and mental health in a changing world”.Dr Tarlochan Singh, Head Department of behavioural and mental health at Hunjan Hospital, Ludhiana said,” Adolescence and the early years of adulthood are a time of life when many changes occur, for example changing schools, leaving home, and starting university or a new job. For many, these are exciting times. They can also be times of stress and apprehension however. In some cases, if not recognized and managed, these feelings can lead to mental illness. He further added Multiple factors determine the mental health of an adolescent at any one time. These factors are Factors which can contribute to stress during adolescence include a desire for greater autonomy, pressure to conform with peers, exploration of sexual identity, and increased access to and use of technology. Media influence and gender norms can exacerbate the disparity between an adolescent’s lived reality and their perceptions or aspirations for the future. Dr. B.S Hunjan( Director of the Hospital) said “Good mental health is one of the greatest gifts which nature has bestowed upon human beings. Unfortunately, we realize it only when we temporarily lose it when we are mentally upset over something; when we are angry or sad or anxious or worried. For most of us, it is only a temporary aberration but a large number of people suffer from much longer states of mental ill health every year.so It is crucial to address the needs of adolescents with defined mental health conditions to avoid serious illness in future.

Arthroscopy Most minimally invasive orthopedic surgeries are done with the use of an arthroscope, a special thin tool designed for viewing and treating problems inside a joint. The arthroscope is so slim that it can be inserted into the joint through one or more tiny “keyhole” cuts through the skin, rather than longer incisions. The arthroscope is fitted with a state-of-the-art miniature camera and a specialized lighting system that enables the structures inside the joint to be viewed on a monitor. The surgeon can attach special tools to the end of the arthroscope to shave, cut, or remove tissue or bone that are causing problems. Arthroscopic or keyhole surgeries of the joints are routinely performed. The most common arthroscopic procedures include repairing cartilage and meniscus problems in the knee, and removing inflammation and repairing rotator cuff tears in the shoulder.
